Green Building Features The renovation just completed was conceived and carried out by Kirsten Thoft, Architect who holds the US Green Building Council's LEED AI certification. The building has been certified to the National Association of Home Builder's Emerald level, their highest rating. The building is also certified as Energy Star compliant. The project also participated in the NJ Clean Energy Program.
Before construction an energy audit was conducted on the building. This audit guided many of the energy efficiency improvements that were made during construction. Existing features of the building were reused wherever possible. Insulation was added to greatly improve the energy efficiency. Air leakage was studied and corrected. Each residence is individually heated and cooled by high-efficiency equipment (dual stage 16-18 SEER). New high-efficiency windows have been installed. The plumbing fixtures are EPA Water Sense certified. Low VOC paints and floor treatments were used to improve indoor air quality.
During construction up to 75% of waste was recycled. Many original fixtures not reused on this project were salvaged for use in other buildings.
